Overview
Weekends were filled with mostly bike rides on the dirt roads and hills created by earth movers preparing the land for the expanding California State University, Dominguez Hills, hide-and-seek in the tall brush or \"domination\" of the old farmhouse, by whichever family or group of kids got there first, and a rock fight for takeover of the house would ensue. Back to the bicycling. My brothers and I were getting adept at fixing stuff with tools, torches and vices thanks to our dad, who was a welder and metal fitter by trade. Knowing we could fix broken bikes made us kind of invincible. We found a few very large hills to coast our Sting-Rays down, attaining ultimate speed of 135 mph at the bottom. Well, almost 135, maybe a little slower. The final lap, I went down that famous hill even faster, as if to say, \"I used to race here in this very spot for a reason, and that is to say, 'In your face, hill!' I win!\" Inadvertently revisiting my childhood under such circumstances was so, well, vengeful.
