Overview
Australian Dion Atkinson, 24, recorded his first ASP World Tour victory by beating [Tom Whitaker] in the controversial final at Merewether in Newcastle after Whitaker was penalised by the judges for interfering in one of Atkinson's waves. The ASP World Tour will touch down in New Zealand this week for the very first time for the six star rated O'Neill Coldwater Classic which also forms part of the O'Neill Coldwater Classic Series with two further events in Thurso, Scotland (April 13-19) and Santa Cruz, California (October 24-30). Featuring in the historical New Zealand event from March 23-29 event are Durbanites [Travis Logie], [Brandon Jackson], Du Toit, Brandon Gibbens and Rudy Palmboom and Cape surfers Dale Staples (Cape St Francis), Shaun Joubert (George) and Royden Bryson (Cape Town).
