Overview
During a firefight at the end of January 1968, when North Vietnamese forces launched the Tet Offensive, Dr. Ellis wrote in his journal that he and two other US doctors managed to get to the hospital \"by a circuitous back way, and immediately we were confronted with hordes of casualties of all sorts, lining the entranceways, the halls, and the operating room area itself.\" \"An expert on esophageal diseases and surgery, Dr. Ellis published seminal work in basic and clinical research on reflux esophagitis, achalasia, and esophageal cancer,\" Harvard Medical School said in a news release this month announcing that the school's flag was flying at half-staff in tribute to Dr. Ellis.
