Overview
The dogs and one cat came into the care of Tennessee facilities on Jan. 17 when Hearts For Hounds founder Bonnie Sheehan, 55, of Long Beach and a rescue volunteer were stopped on a traffic violation near Memphis. Authorities discovered 141 dogs, including one that had died, and one cat in a U-Haul and towed minivan in what were described as deplorable conditions. \"I'm pretty satisfied,\" [Dan Morrison] said. \"(The dogs) are all in pretty good shape. Some have been in custody for a couple years. They didn't have behavioral issues for the most part. The majority are just waiting to go into homes.\" Members of the Fayette Co. Animal Control, Animal Rescue and the West Tenn. Drug Task Force round up 128 dogs found in a U-Haul trailer that was pulled over on I-40 to investigate for drugs. Instead, the dogs and one cat were found, all of which were locked in cages tie-fasteners and no ventilation. Most of the dogs were injured or emaciated and one was found dead Tuesday Jan. 17, 2012 at mile marker 42 on I-40 East of Memphis, Tenn. (AP Photo/The Commercial Appeal, Kyle Kurlick)
