Overview
This business makes sure there's plenty of grub for the Wild West. Associated Food Stores (AFS) is a leading regional cooperative wholesale distributor that supplies groceries and other products to some 500 independent supermarkets in about eight Western states. It also offers support services for its member-owners, including market research, real estate analysis, store design, technology procurement, and training. In addition, AFS owns a stake in Western Family Foods, a grocery wholesalers' partnership that produces Western Family private-label goods. The co-op, formed in 1940, also operates 40-plus corporate stores in Utah under five different banners, including Fresh Market.
