Overview
According to a commentary, the most interesting Java-based Internet clients tend to be things like the trading desktop Charles Schwab gives its most active customers, which uses a Marimba Castanet client rather than a browser and boosts performance by more than 400% by bypassing the HTML-driven Web site. This browser Java equation may change as a result of the formation of the Sun-Netscape Alliance. One of the side deals was that AOL installation CDs would include Java 2. Sun also says Java 2 will get a boost when it becomes a standard part of Communicator 5.0. Putting Java 2 on all of those AOL 5.0 CDs might make more of a difference. Since AOL uses an embedded version of Internet Explorer, what those users are actually getting is the Java plug-in installed side by side with the Microsoft Java virtual machine.
