VF-213's maintenance officer and Tomcat radar intercept officer (RIO) Lieutenant Commander Robb Soderholm gave Proceedings a breakdown of the type of missions flown by both F-14 units during the squadron's time in the Northern Arabian Gulf: \"We were flying between 14 and 18 sorties per day, with only three five-day port visits to Jebel Ali, in the United Arab Emirates, to break up this routine. At least a third of these flights were sixhour marathons up into Iraq.
