Overview
This past June marked the seventh anniversary of the Newport International Film Festival (NIFF) in Newport RI and the modest seaside fest shows no sign of a fatal itch. Even the departure of high-profile sponsors like Vanity Fair and The New York Times has turned into an advantage for NIFF--more local sponsors have stepped in, and as a result, the community of historic Newport claims proud possession of the fest, hosting filmmakers with what has become signature hospitality on the festival circuit. NIFF is a good choice, then, for the feedback screenings offered in collaboration with NY-based DocuClub for the past three years, which gives filmmakers a chance to screen not-yet-completed films and solicit comments.
