Overview
Slade discusses the property market and environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) inaction. A key area of interest that started the year high on industry leaders' agendas is ESG. Sadly, the current economic situation is undermining recent progress in this area and this could fall down the priority list, particularly for smaller players. Putting current economic challenges aside, though, it's important to remember that inaction comes with its own costs and the countdown to the Energy Performance Certificate compliance deadline should also not be overlooked. Obsolescence could be a defining issue in future, as buildings that fail to meet new sustainability standards become difficult or even impossible to lease.
