Pero, a diferencia del personaje de la literatura infantil, a Jim Braddock no le llegan por obra y gracia de un hada madrina y su varita mágica, sino, por su esfuerzo, persistencia y, sobre todo, por su carácter, siempre noble, sencillo sin dejarse embriagar por la fama y dedicado a su esposa (Renée Zellweger) y a sus hijos. Por eso, el título con el que llegó al país, El luchador, le queda mejor.
