Overview
Considerable interest attaches to the fact that a large proportion of the experience gained from the use of superheated steam, at the time of its introduction some fifty years ago, was obtained in marine practice. Due to the limited development of boiler construction at that time, the steam pressures used in marine engines were low, and, consequently, the temperatures and range of expansion were low, so that only a moderate amount of superheat could be conveniently applied.
