Overview
Bangladesh's opposition MPs ( members of parliament) staged their 9-hour token hunger strike in the capital on Tuesday protesting the enactment of the Public Safety Bill and demanding the resignation of the government. Leader of the opposition and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Begum Khaleda Zia arrived at Paltan Maidan in the morning to lead the token hunger strike, which was also joined by Jatiya Party (JP) Chief H M Ershad. Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Oikya Jote (Islami Solidarity Front), which are allied with BNP and JP, staged a sit-in demonstration in the same place along with the hunger strikers.
