Overview
With the 2006 Commander, Jeep now has an SUV that offers three rows of seats. The third isn't the easiest row to get to or the most spacious once there and it leaves precious little room for luggage, groceries or golf clubs when in use. Commander is first up in a major expansion of the Jeep line that for now offers Wrangler, Liberty and Grand Cherokee. Spy shots have shown a four-door Wrangler is in the works. And early next year, Chrysler Group's Belvidere assembly plant will start producing the Dodge Caliber, with a couple small SUV derivatives, the Compass and Patriot, expected soon after for the Jeep lineup. PLUSES: Finally the long-awaited Jeep with three rows of seats without being a monster to maneuver. Stability control standard. Second- and third-row seats fold flat for lots of cargo capacity. Overhead skylights for second row passengers. Hemi V-8 for no- hesitation power and performance.
