Overview
[John Willshire-Carrera] is one of a handful of attorneys representing the group of more than 300 undocumented immigrants that were arrested on March 6 by federal agents at Michael Bianco Inc., a factory in New Bedford, Mass. That is the reason why Willshire-Carrera, who works for Greater Boston Legal Services, and about 10 other Massachusetts attorneys requested on Friday that the detainees being held in Texas be returned to Massachusetts as soon as possible. Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff asking him for the following: to release the names of the detainees and where they are being held; to return those being held out of the state to Massachusetts; to release the remaining detainees on their recognizance; and to meet with him to discuss the situation.
