Overview
Sep. 17--First nights, concerts and showbiz parties are not the usual haunt of solicitors, but David Franks is as likely to be found backstage with the stars as he is sitting at his desk. As a partner specialising in music and theatre entertainment law with the Simkins Partnership in central London, David represents singers, musicians and performing artists ranging from Sir Cliff Richard to Lord Lloyd-Webber's Really Useful Company. There are more than 86,000 solicitors in Britain. Women account for just over a third, but the number entering the profession is rising steadily. Janet Paraskeva is chief executive of the Law Society, which represents solicitors in England and Wales. She says: \"Many people have a fixed idea of what a solicitor does, but in fact there is a much wider range of possibilities available.\"
