Overview
[Michele Bachmann], who has not officially announced her candidacy, said in an interview with MinnPost.com last week that she would \"take a close look at the gold standard issue\" but was participating in the bus tour because she agrees with \"a number of important principles\" espoused by the groups. Ryan Rhodes, chairman of the Iowa Tea Party, said the other primary goal of the tour is to educate members of the Tea Party about the basics of grass-roots activism in advance of the Iowa caucus, now scheduled for February. \"We are trying to train the Tea Party, and we also want the candidates to answer questions about gold,\" Rhodes said. \"When we started working on the gold standard a year ago, the responses we'd get was 'isn't that sort of horse and buggy and clipper ships,'\" he said.
