إن مذكرات إسماعيل صدقي تكشف عن جوانب جوهرية لهذه الشخصية السياسية الفاعلة التي خاضت غمار العمل العام واجتذبت النقمة الشعبية في وقت ما حتى لقب صدقي بعدو الشعب على إثر مشاركته في وضع دستور 1933 م الذي عد انقلابا على دستور 1923 م المقيد لصلاحيات الملك في مذكراته لا يكتفي صدقي بسرد الوقائع والأحداث فقط بل يبسط رؤيته وتحليله لها، ويقدم تفسيرات لمواقفه السياسية وقراراته التي اتخذها إبان توليه المسئولية وزيرا أو رئيس وزراء يشرح فكره الحزبي وعقيدته الوطنية، ويستعرض في الأثناء طائفة من إنجازاته لا سيما في المجالين الاقتصادي والتشريعي.
