يسلط هذا الكتاب الضوء على الصراع الناشب في داخل الصومال منذ عام 1991 محللا الأسباب التاريخية والاجتماعية والسياسية الكامنة وراء اندلاع الصراع وطبيعة الصراع ودور الأطراف الداخليين والخارجيين في إدامته ومساعي صنع السلام وحفظه في هذا البلد الذي يعد \"دولة فاشلة\" ويركز أيضا على أحد تداعيات الفوضى والاضطراب والاقتتال في الصومال وهو الممثل ببروز نزعة الانفصال والاستقلال لدى بعض أقاليمه فيتناول الأوضاع السياسية فيما يسمى جمهورية أرض الصومال كما يعرض للصراع الحدودي بين هذه الأخيرة وبين ما يسمى إقليم بونتلاند.
