حظي القرآن الكريم-على مدار التاريخ-بالعناية والدراسة، ويشهد لذلك ما تنوء به أرفف المكتبات العالمية من مؤلفات مطبوعة أو مخطوطة تناولت بالدراسة كل ما يتصل بالقرآن الكريم من قريب أو بعيد، وقد شاركت في هذه المؤلفات أجيال من العلماء الأفذاذ على امتداد الرقعة الإسلامية، كما شارك في بعضها دارسون من غير المسلمين، وبخاصة في الحقبة الأخيرة، حيث ظهر اهتمام المستشرقين بالدراسات ما. وكثيرا، ومنهجا وأسلوبا وغرضا وهدفا الإسلامية، ولا شك بأن هذه الدراسات تتفاوت جودة وعمقا في بعض جوانبها، أو وهما وقع يقف القارئ الناقد أمام بعض القضايا التي سبقت دراستها، فيرى قصورا فيه كاتبها، أو خطأ علميا وقع لمؤلفها، فيرى ضرورة إعادة الدراسة وتلافي جوانب القصور.
