ترصد الأوراق في الجزء الأول حياة جمال عبد الناصر طالبا وضابطا، ويتحدث عن نشأة عبد الناصر ثم دخوله الكلية الحربية وتخرجه منها وكذا خدمته في السودان والعلمين ومن ثم الاستقرار بالقاهرة، ذلك حتى أصبح قائدا للضباط الأحرار، وأما الجزء الثاني من الكتاب فيحكي عن الثورة في سنواتها الأولى ويتناول تغيير النظام القائم وصدام الجيش مع الأحزاب والجماعات السياسية والتغيير الدستوري وإعلان الجمهورية ثم مفاوضات الجلاء بمراحلها ويعنى الجزء الثالث والأخير من الكتاب برصد كافة التفاصيل والأحداث الخاصة بتأميم قناة السويس والعدوان الثلاثي على مصر في عام 1956 وذلك من خلال جملة أوراق كتبها عبد الناصر.
