يتكلم الكاتب أنيس منصور في الكتاب هذا عن الرئيس الراحل جمال عبد الناصر وعن فترة حكمه، وهل بالفعل كان جلاد كما يقول عليه البعض أم كان عظيما وحاكما عادلا كما يظن البعض الآخر، بين وجهتي النظر هاتين يقدم الكاتب كتابه هذا. كما أن المؤلف يحكي قصة حياته الشخصية وآرائه الأدبية والفلسفية ممزوجة بلمحات خاطفة من الحقبة الناصرية، كما يحكي لنا عما عاشه من محن وأوقات عصيبة، وتطرق كذلك للعديد من الموضوعات خلال هذه الحقبة حيث يتساءل عن أسباب الهزيمة وأسباب النصر.
