Overview
وتدور رواية العار على السقوط المفاجيء لأستاذ جامعي من عليائه وفقدانه لوظيفته خزيا بسبب علاقته الشائنة بإحدى تلاميذه. ونتيجة لحالة الإحباط التي أصيب بها هذا الأستاذ استقال من منصبه، وذهب للعيش مع ابنته في جنوب إفريقيا. وهناك هاجمهما ثلاثة رجال، أشعلوا فيه النيران ثم اغتصبوا ابنته. وأحداث الرواية تدور في ظل خلفية التغيرات الكبيرة التي شهدتها جنوب إفريقيا بعد مرحلة الفصل العنصري. وقد امتدح النقاد الرواية قائلين بأنها عمل سيتردد صداه في الذاكرة طويلا بعد الانتهاء من قراءته.
