يتناول كتاب (حرب الثلاثين سنة) والذي قامه بتأليفه (محمد حسنين هيكل) في حوالي (4 مجلد) من القطع المتوسط موضوع (تاريخ مصر) مستعرضا المحتويات التالية : لا أعرف أهو تحيز لرجل لما ألف وعرف، أو انه حكم فى الموضوع، بصرف النظر عن متغيرات العصور. لكنى على شبه اقتناع بأن الكتاب المطبوع على ورق له العمر الطويل، و أنه الحاضر على الدوام، مهما اشتد من حوله الزحام. بمعنى ان الكلمة المكتوبة على الورق باقية، و الكلمة المسموعة على الإذاعة و التليفزيون عابرة، و الكلمة المكهربة على الكمبيوتر فوارة، و هى مثل كل فوران متلاشية. أى أن الكلمة المكتوبة على الورق بناء صلب : حجر أو معدن، و هكذا كل بناء، و أما غيرها فهو صحيحة متغيرة-خاطفة، و لامعة وبارقة. و بالنسبة لكاتب على ورق وبالحبر فإن كتابته هى بناء عمره، وهكذا فإن كل المجموعة فى نهاية المطاف : عمر من الكاتب !
