يتناول الكتاب سيرة الربان العربي اليمني الشهير سعيد سالم باطايع ( 1180- 1273 هـ / 1766 – 1856م ) ابن مدينة الحامي صاحب المنظومتين الشهيرتين في الملاحة البحرية اللتين تعتبران مرجعين أساسيين إلى يومنا هذا لأرباب السفن البحرية المسافرة عبر خطي مسقط–المخا وسيحوت-زنجبار ويكشف معد الكتاب عن جوانب مهمة في حياة با طايع منذ كان صبيا حتى أضحى ربانا شهيرا وما اكتسبه خلال تلك الفترة من علوم الفلك وفنون الملاحة وصنوف العلم المختلفة مما جعله يوصف بالملاح الشاعر الفقيه اللغوي الصوفي الفلكي الخطاط ويحوي الكتاب نماذج مختلفة من المخطوطات والوثائق والخرائط والوصايا والرسومات بعضها بخط الملاح باطايع.
