انتهى هشام شرابي من كتابه هذه السيرة الذاتية في الفترة التي اكتشف فيها الأطباء أنه مصاب بسرطان البروستات وقبل المرض وبعده لم يشعر بأي عارض واستحدث حياته على نمطها المعتاد بشيء واحد تغير، بدأ يحس بالنزف بمرور الزمن بقصره وبدأ بإدراك ما يدركه كل منا عندما يحس الطرق الخفيف على الباب، الطرق الذي كان بالسابق لا يسمعه إلا على أبواب الآخرين وهكذا يعيش الواحد منا حياته، كأن لا نهاية لها وفجأة يتوقف الزمن، ليعود هذا لواحد إلى نفسه، لكن لحظة الوعي هذه، التي حدثنا عنها هيدجر، لا تدوم، إذ سرعان ما يبلغنا الزمن ثانية ونغطس في دوامته التي لا تتوقف.
