تاريخ الغوص على اللؤلؤ هو عبارة عن موسوعة متكاملة للحرفة الرئيسية لسكان الخليج خلال ثلاثة قرون خلت يوثق المؤلف في هذا الكتاب المكون من جزئين أعمال القائمين على هذه المهنة والكشف عن الكثير من أسرارها بداية من التجهيز والإعداد لرحلة الغوص وهي المرحلة التي يكون فيها البحار قد جهز كافة أدواته البحرية والتي كانت في معظمها بدائية وتتم صناعتها من البيئة البحرية لتبدأ بعدها مرحلة إبحارهم لأماكن الغوص على اللؤلؤ والتي تسمى محليا بالهيرات وهي ( أمكنة وجود المحار في البحر ) وفي هذه المرحلة التي تسمى فترة الغوص الكبير.
