تغيرت تركيا ولم تتغير. انتصرت وانهزمت. تقدمت وترددت. ثمة أسئلة كثيرة جدا وصعبة جدا حول مستقبل الجمهورية والعلمانية والدين والدولة والخيارات والأدوار الإقليمية والعالمية. \"انتصر\" النظام على الأكراد، معتقلا زعيمهم عبد الله أوجالان، وأرغم حزبه، العمال الكردستاني، على التخلي عن العنف بعد 51 عاما من الدم والخراب. وانتصر النظام على الحركات الإسلامية، حظرا وسجنا وإبعادا، لا فرق بين متطرف ومعتدل. فحظر حزب الرفاه، وسجن نجم الدين أربكان، وضاقت قبة البرلمان بالمحجبة مروي قاواقجي، فنزعت منها النيابة والجنسية. في هذا الكتاب يحاول المؤلف الإحاطة بتركيا كعالم غريب وفريد ومتنوع ومشتت وحيوي، وكذلك مواكبة مآزقها من الجار العربي إلى الحليف الإسرائيلي. ومن الباب الكردي إلى الباب الإسلامي إلى \"الحلم الأوروبي\" أو الذئب المتوثب في أقاصي بلاد القوزاق.
