هذا البحث دراسة نفسية تتناول مظاهر العنف في أدب توفيق يوسف عواد، وتتبنى منهجا مرنا لا يتقيد بمذهب محدد، بل يعانق الصفات الإنسانية الكبرى، الإيمان والرجاء والمحبة. منفتحا ولعل عواد هو أديب العنف بامتياز، فمعظم أبطاله ساحقون مسحوقون، قاهرون مقهورون، تقودهم رغبة محمومة في إلغاء الآخر، وحتى في إلغاء أنفسهم، وكأنهم يعلنون لنا أن الحياة . مستبعدا غائبة ما دام الحب غائبا إن التحديق المتواصل في الجانب المظلم من الطبيعة البشرية، يدفعنا، ربما، إلى حنين عذب جميل، الشوق إلى الطهارة والبراءة والصفاء، لذلك نتساءل ونحن نعيش على هذه الأرض العربية الثكلى : متى تنتهي دوامة العنف ؟ متى تقبل أعمق ما فينا ولا ننبذ الآخر ؟ وهل من نهاية لهذا الليل العربي الطويل.
