يتضمن هذا الكتاب دراسة تحليلية لمجموعة من الوثائق الخاصة بأسرة عبد الجليل، التي أمكن تصنيفها في أربعة أقسام : يتحدث الأول عن وثائق عبد الجليل العدسانية التي يعود أقدمها إلى عام 1861 م، والثاني : عن النشاط التجاري للأسرة المذكورة، وخصص الثالث لحوادث الكويت في عامي 1901 م و1902 م، وتضمن القسم الرابع معلومات متفرقة عن الحياة الاجتماعية ومتطلباتها قديما في الكويت من واقع الرسائل والوثائق المختلفة الخاصة بالأسرة، وتقدم كل تلك الوثائق مادة أولية ثرية للباحثين في تاريخ الكويت تفتح المجال لهم لمزيد من العمل الجاد في تحليلها واقتناص الفوائد منها، ويكشف الكتاب عن أهمية الوثائق الأهلية وقيمتها في فهم حركة المجتمع وتطوره.
