يتحدث الكاتب في هذا الكتاب عن عشرة أعوام عاشها مع الاستاذ الدكتور علي الوردي كانت بمثابة مئة عام، فقد عايشه تاريخا ممتدا، تحدث فيه معه عن طفولته وشبابه ودراسته، ودخوله العراق كفاتح علمي أراد نقل المجمتع البدوي إلى مجتمع مدني يحكمه القانون في أوائل الخمسينات، حدثني عن تحوله الفكري في بيروت حين ذهب لدراسة البكالريوس، بعد أن كان قبلها بسنين يقف في الحضرة الكاظمية شاعرا مفوها في المناسبات الدينية، ثم انتقالته الفكرية حين دخل جامعة تكساس لنيل الماجستير والدكتوراة وكيف أن رئيس الجامعة انتدبه لينيب عنه بإلقاء محاضرة في جامعة نيويورك، كرمه على اثرها عمدة نيويورك آنذاك، حدثني كيف عاش وتعايش مع الأنظمة السياسية المتعاقبة على العراق.
