في هذا العمل تبرز بوضوح ملامح الجهد المبذول لواحد من ألمع الصحفيين العراقيين وهو الأستاذ سلام الشماع في كتاب يجمع رسائل الدكتور علي الوردي المتبادلة مع قريبه الأستاذ خليل إبراهيم الورد الموظف في مديرية معارف بغداد ويفعل ذلك المؤلف في خلال خمسة سنوات قضاها في قراءة هذه الرسائل وتصنيفها وشرح ما غمض منها وتحقيقها وجمع المعلومات لها والتعريف بالشخصيات التي وردت في الرسائل أسماؤها وكل ما يغمض على القارىء العربي من غير أبناء مدينة الكاظمية التي تكرر ذكرها في الرسائل مع إضافة ملحق للوثائق والصور.
