يجمع الكاتب \"حسن شبر\" في أربعة مجلدات مسيرة حزب الدعوة الإسلامية في العراق الذي تأسس في العام 1957 والكتاب في مضمونه وثائقي إستند مؤلفه إلى وثائق تاريخية هامة معاصرة لمسيرة نضال حزب الدعوة، فهو من عايش الأحداث لحظة بلحظة، فكتب عنها مجسدا ذلك في عدة أجزاء الجزء الأول \"من التأسيس إلى مجيء البعثيين عام 1968\"، وهو الذي رمز إليه (كتاب الدعوة الأول) أما كتاب الدعوة الثاني \"من مجيء البعثيين إلى إستشهاد الإمام السيد محمد باقر الصدر\" وأما (كتاب الدعوة الثالث) من بعد شهادة السيد الصدرإلى الإنتفاضة الشعبانية عام 1991، ثم (كتاب الدعوة الرابع) ويبدأ من الإنتفاضة إلى سقوط صدام وفي الأجزاء الأربعة يغطي الكاتب وضع الشيعة العراقيين منذ أيام الدولة العثمانية مرورا بأيام النظام البعثي، وإنتهاء بالمرحلة الراهنة.
