هذا الكتاب مرتب ترتيبا هجائيا يبدأ بحرف الهمزة وينتهي بحرف الياء ولا يحتاج القارئ إلى جهد كبير للوصول إلى المثل المطلوب فقد روعي في ترتيب الأمثال الحرف الأول والثاني وما بعدهما، فما كان مبدوءا بالألف ثم الباء يأتي قبل ما بدئ بألف فتاء وهكذا ومما يمتاز به هذا السفر الضخم أنه لم يثقل بالحواشي إذ إن المؤلف اتبع طريقة موفقة في إحالة المثل إلى المصادر التي أخذ منها حيث يورد تلك المصادر بعد إيراد المثل مباشرة.
