هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا به يكتب قسطنطين بازيلي وهو مراقب وشاهد عيان كما يقالن بقلم المؤوخ عادة عن أحداث وقعت في سوريا الكبرى زمن حكم السلطان محمود وهي فترة النصف الأول من القرن التاسع عشر فيتطرق الحديث عن أحداث عظيمة ولكنه بلا شك يمارس أحيانا أخرى دور الباحث الأنثروبولوجي وهو يعلل سبب سلوك القبائل وتقلبات ولائها وانحيازاتها وتعصباتها وسنجد الكتاب حافلا بالحديث عن أزمة الخلافة العثمانية مع الوالي محمد علي الذي تمرد على السلطان وأراد أن يقتطع من الأراضي له ولعائلته الكثير فاحتل سوريا وبلغ أن يقترب من أسطنبول.
