يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى أن يضع بين يدى القارئ صورة بانورامية لتطور نقابة الصحفيين المصريين منذ نشأتها وحتى الوقت الراهن مع طرح السيناريوهات المستقبلية لمستقبها حيث نشأت نقابة الصحفيين في مصر رسميا في عام 1941 إلا أن فكرة تأسيسها ترجع إلى أوائل القرن العشرين حيث جرت عدة محاولات لتكوين تنظيم مهني يضم جموع الصحفيين وبصدور القانون رقم (10) لسنة 1941 أُعلن رسميا عن قيام النقابة وانتخب محمد أبو الفتح كأول نقيب للصحفيين وكانت النقابة في أول الأمر تضم المحررين وملاك الصحف ولم يكن الانضمام إليها إجباريا إلا أن القانون (185) لسنة 1955 قصر عضوية النقابة على المحررين وجعل الانضمام إلى عضويتها إجباريا وشرطا لمزاولة مهنة الصحافة.
