يتناول هذا الكتاب أهم الشخصيات والأعيان والرموز الوطنية والأقطاب السياسية في المشهد العراقي البصري طيلة قرنين من الزمن وقد حفل بالعديد من المواد التاريخية والتراثية والإجتماعية عن مدينة البصرة الزاهرة ومنها ذكرنا بعض العائلات العريقة والبلدات البصرية القديمة في مركز المدينة وأقضيتها ونواحيها ومنها معالم ومحلات العشار وبلدات البصرة القديمة في فترة ما قبل وبعد العهد العثماني وأشرنا إلى المقاطعات الشرقية مقاطعات (شط العرب) ومقاطعات البصرة الشمالية والجنوبية ومرحلة ازدهار البصرة في العهد الحميدي وفي البدء كانت المشراق ومحلاتها النواة الأولى لتكوين المدينة الحديثة القدمة سنة 800-810ه.
