Overview
أبو الريحان محمد بن أحمد البيروني، ولد في الخامس من شهر سبتمر عام 973 في ضاحية كاث عاصمة خوارزم في أوزباكستان. وهو مسلم سني عاش في العصر العباسي وهو العصر الذهبي للحضارة الإسلامية، وأصله العرقي فارسي، وأطلق عليه المستشرقون تسمية \"بطليموس العرب\" حيث كان البيروني رحالا وفلكيا وجغرافيا وجيولوجيا، وبرع أيضا في الفلسفلة والرياضيات والصيدلة وكان مؤرخا ومترجما لثقافات الهند أيضا، ووصف بأنه من بين أعظم العقول التي عرفتها الثقافة الإسلامية والبشرية أجمع، وهو أول من قال بأن الأرض تدور حول محورها، صنف البيروني كتبا تزيد عن المائة والعشرين كتابا في شتى المجالات، ويعتبر البيروني أب علم الإنسان، ومؤسس علم الميكانيكا التجريبي، والفلك التجريبي.
