في هذا الكتاب يشرح (ابن سينا) آخر ما توصل إليه من تعريفات للمنطق ومبادئه وقضاياه، ينقد (ابن سينا) منطق الفلاسفة اليونانيين بكل حيادية، ويذكر ما لهم وما عليهم، بلغة سهلة وأسلوب مبسط، ويتضمن الكتاب كذلك قصائد من نظم (ابن سينا) تجسد فلسفته في الحياة ورؤيته للشيب والحكمة والزهد، وتتوج قصائده القصيدة (المزدوجة) التي ينصح كل دارس لعلم المنطق أن يحفظها لما فيها من خلاصة ما وصل إليه الفيلسوف الكبير، ومن مميزات هذا الكتاب أن (ابن سينا) قد ألفه في أخريات أيامه، أي بعد أن قتل هذا المجال بحثا ودراسة ؛ ولذا يعد الأهم بين سائر مصنفاته الأخرى في المنطق.
