هي قصيدة نصائح تعليمية في فن الخط العربي ومحتواها هو الأخر يؤكد أنها له في بيانه أوصاف قطة القلم التي ظهر أثرها في خطوطه واعتبرت طريقة خاصة به ترسمها غالبية الخطاطين بعده نراها في الاثار الباقية من خطوطه وخطوط المقلدين له الذين اشتهروا بذلك من أمثال ياقوت الموصلي 618 هـ وتلامذته وقد شاعت قرونا في مختلف أرجاء البلاد العربية والإسلامية وكان اخر وجود لها في مصر في القرن العاشر الهجري والتي خصص لها الطيبي حيا سنة 908 هـ مؤلفا خاصا عن طريقة ابن البواب سماه جامع محاسن كتابة الكتاب عرض فيه نماذج عديدة من الخطوط بطريقته.
