الكتاب يلخص قصة حياة الديكتاتور السوفييتي جوزيف ستالين (1879م-1953م) هذا الطاغية الذي تسبب في هلاك أكثر من عشرين مليونا من رعاياه خلال فترة حكمه الرهيبة التي استمرت لأكثر من ربع قرن، فاستحق وعن جدارة لقب سفاح القرن العشرين. فقط للتنبيه. ورد في الصفحة 105 من الكتاب أن كاتب روسيا الشهير \" تولستوي\" كان ممن يتملق و يمدح الزعيم ستالين، وهذا ما قد يوحي أن المقصود هو الأديب العظيم صاحب رائعة \"الحرب و السلام\" لكن الحقيقة أن المقصود هو كاتب آخر ليس بشهرة الأول وهو ألكسي تولستوي (1883-1945). بينما الكاتب الشهير \"ليو تولستوي\" فقد توفي عام 1910م اي قبل حتى ان تقوم الثورة البلشفية وتوصل لينين و من بعده ستالين للحكم.
