أتى هذا الكتاب مواكبا لمرور أربعين عاما على صدور مجلة الفيصل، ورصد فيه مؤلفه جميع المواد المنشورة في المجلة والمتعلقة بتاريخ الملك فيصل أو شخصيته أو سيرته أو جهوده السياسية أو أعماله ومنجزاته بشكل مباشر. وقد بلغت جملة المواد المدرجة بين دفتي الكتاب ثماني وثلاثين مادة، اختلفت طبيعتها وتنوعت بين محاضرات وبحوث وقصائد ومقالات وندوات، لذا جرى تقسيمها في الكتاب على خمسة فصول، وقد تم ترتيب المواد في كل فصل تاريخيا من الأقدم إلى الأحدث بحسب تاريخ نشرها في مجلة الفيصل.
