يقول ابن منظور في مقدمة هذا المخطوط وبعد فإني طالعت كتاب التذكرة تأليف الشيخ الإمام أبي عبد الله محمد بن الحسن بن محمد بن حمدون ولقد أجاد في ترتيبه وجمعه الفنون المحاسن فاخترت منه ما هو الأحسن وإن كان فيما لفظته جيد وحسن وتركته على أبوابه وفصوله وحذفت منه كل باب في فن يجمع فصولا متقاربة ومعاني ما لا حاجة إليه من زوائده وفضوله ورتبته خمسين بابا متناسبة ليقرب على متصفحة ما يريد مطالعته بمعرفة مكانه وابتدأته بالمواعظ والآداب الدينية وختمته بالأدعية المروية وسميته المنتخب والمختار في النوادر والأشعار.
