يعد بنو عباد أعظم ملوك الطوائف وأفسحهم ملكا وأبعدهم صيتا وأكثرهم ذكرا في التاريخ والأدب وقد قامت دولتهم في إشبيلية سنة 414 هـ ثم اتسعت فيما بعد وشملت ملك بني حمود في الجزيرة وملك بني جهور في قرطبة وامتد في الشرق حتى مرسية وقد دامت دولتهم سبعين سنة وكان المعتمد بن عباد أشهر من تولى الحكم فيها كان شابا شاعرا يحب الأدب ويجمع في بلاطه كبار الشعراء والأدباء أمثال ابن زيدون وابن اللبانة وابن حمديس الصقلي وقد كانت زوجته اعتماد الرميكية هي الأخرى شاعرة وقد وضح لنا عبد الوهاب عزام في هذا الكتاب حياة هذا الملك الشاعر وأبرز مآثره الأدبية والتاريخية التي تركها فأفاض وأفاد وجمع فأوعى.
