وهذا الموضوع بالغ الأهمية لأنه يلقي الضوء على أهمية مدينة عدن بالنسبة لسلاطين بني طاهر آخر حكام الدولة اليمنية في العصر الإسلامي، ومن جهة أخرى أهمية موقعها الاستراتيجي على البوابة الجنوبية للبحر الأحمر، ودورها الفعال في التأثير على حركة التجارة البحرية العالمية، كما تكمن أهمية هذا البحث في أنه يدرس المظاهر الحضارية التي كانت قائمة في عدن آنذاك كالنظم الإدارية والمالية والقضائية وغيرها وغني عن البيان أن الهدف من هذه الدراسة ليس مجرد سرد التاريخ وإنما استخلاص الدلالات والمضامين على مكانة عدن في عصر الدولة الطاهرية كمركز تجاري عالمي ساهم إلى حد كبير في أداء رسالته الحضارية عبر العصور.
