عمل مسرحي مأساوي (تراجيدي) للأديب والشاعر الإنجليزي ويليام شكسبير، وتقع أحداث القصة في مدينة فيرونا الإيطالية، حيث يكون العداء القديم بين عائلتي مونتيجيو وكوبولت يوشك أن يتجدد. ويحذر الأمير إسكالوس والذي يكون أمير فيرونا وحاكمها الطرفين من عواقب إخلالهما بسلام المدينة والتي قد تصل إلى عقوبة الموت في هذا الوقت يكون روميو واقعا في حب روزالين، ويقوم صديقه بينفوليو بالتخفيف عنه فيذهب روميو وصديقه إلى حفلة مقامة من قبل عائلة كابوليت مرتدين أقنعة كي لا يعرفا، ولكن تيبالت يعرف بوجود روميو ويهم بقتاله إلا أن السيد كابوليت يمنعه من ذلك فيرجع روميو بعد طرده من الحفل ليلتقي بجولييت فيتبادلان الوعد بأن يحبا بعضهما للأبد ثم يخبر روميو الراهب لورانس بما جرى فيوافق الراهب أن يزوجهما
