الديوان الذي نقلب صفحاته هو للنابغة الذبياني الذي هو أحد فحول شعراء الجاهلية، ومن أعيانهم المذكورين، وقد ذهب بعض النقاد إلى أنه كان أحسن الناس ديباجة شعر، وأكثرهم رونق كلام، في غير تكلف ولا تفتت، حتى عد في الطبقة الأولى بعد أمير شعراء العصر الجاهلي \"إمرئ القيس\"، وكان لا ينسج كلامه إلا على منوال الفصاحة، فيجئ شعره متين السبك، جيد الحبك، صافي الديباجة، واضح المعاني، وقد شهد له عمر بن الخطاب، وأبو الأسود الدؤلي، وحماد الراوية، والأخطل، وجميع صاغة الشعر العربي.
