مارتين السعيد رواية لجان دوست، يغادر مارتين هذه المدينة الصغيرة التي تقع في شمال ولاية الراين عام 1699 وتركها متجها إلى الشرق، وذلك بناء على النصيحة التي تلقاها من هذا الرجل العجوز الذى يدعى \"هانس\" ، وكان هانس قد عاصر فترة حرب الثلاثين عاما التي مزقت أوروبا، وخسر بسببها أسرته فأصبح ناقما على أوروبا وعلى الحرب بما فيها من مذاهب وأفكار متطرفة تفرق بين البشر، وتبدأ الرواية عندما اجتمع مندوب الإمبراطورية العثمانية ومندوب الدول الأوربية في البلدة.
