يؤكد المؤلف في هذا الكتاب على هيمنة القص على التعليم الأدبي فلقد كان الأدب فى سالف الزمان يعني الشعر في المحل الأول وكانت الرواية بدعة محدثة ألصقت بالسيرة والتاريخ بما لايجعل منها أدبا أصيلا وشكلا عاميا لايرتفع إلى مصاف الدوافع الراقية للشعر الغنائي أو الشعر الملحمى ولكن بعد انقلاب الوضع في القرن العشرين حيث تفوقت الرواية على الشعر سواء حيث مايكتبه الكتاب أو مايقرأه القراء، وهيمن القص على التعليم الأدبى منذ الستينات ولا تزال الناس تدرس الشعر بالطبع، فهو مطلوب في أحوال كثيرة، ولكن الروايات والقصص القصيرة أحتلت محل المركز فى المنهاج الدراسي.
