يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى معرفة المثالية في الفلسفة الألمانية الحديثة من خلال نماذج أساسية هي ليبنتز Leibniz وكانط Kant وهيجل Hegel فمن الناحية الزمنية فإن كل من ليبنتز وكانط يندرجان بكل سهولة في نفس الفترة التاريخية ولكن الصعوبة تطرح بالنسبة لهيجل الذي عاش نصف حياته في التاريخ الحديث والنصف الآخر في التاريخ المعاصر ولا يمكن أن نحصر بحثنا حول هيجل في حدود سنة 1789 لأنه في الجزء الأول من حياته كان يطرح الإشكاليات بمنطق فلاسفة العصر الحديث وفي الجزء الثاني منها بدأ في الإجابة عليها بروح ومنطق معاصرين.
