تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى الكشف عن العناصر المادية في فكر سلامة موسى، وذلك من خلال دراسة نماذج من كتاباته التي بدأت في الصدور حوالي مطلع القرن العشرين، واستمرت حتى نهاية الخمسينيات منه، إذ تغطي الحقبة الأخيرة فترة نهضوية من تاريخ مصر، فضلا عن تغطيتها فترة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، والمشروع العربي التحديثي الذي رافقها. وبعد إنجاز المهمة الأولى، سنشرع في محاولة لتحقيق هدف رئيسي آخر، هو البحث عن علاقات تربط هذا الفكر المادي بالفلسفة المادية الإنجليزية، التي عبرت عن إنجازات الثورة العملية الكبرى وطموحاتها، في القرن السابع عشر في إنجلترا، وسوف نسعى إلى استقصاء مدى تأثر الفكر العربي المعاصر بالفكر الإنجليزي المذكور.
